SUPER GT CRASH: MATSUDA AND MATSUURA DODGE SERIOUS INJURIES IN HORRENDOUS INCIDENT

During the thrilling course of the Super GT championship at the legendary Suzuka circuit, Tsugio Matsuda, the eminent Super GT racer, experienced a chilling crash at the infamously fast 130R. Thankfully, the report is that Matsuda, along with Kosuke Matsuura who was also involved in the dramatic collision, has avoided serious injuries.

The race had to be red-flagged after only 59 out of the anticipated 77 laps due to the harrowing magnitude of the crash. There was no continuation of the race owing to the substantial damage caused to the barriers from the impact that saw the car being torn apart.

Driving the #23 Motul Nissan Z GT500, Matsuda attempted to overtake two GT300 cars on the outside of the chicane In a daring move. But, the move didn't come to fruition for him as he made contact with one of the cars, throwing his Z into the right side of the chicane approach, losing control and bringing his race to an early end as his car almost disintegrated around him.

Matsuura also saw his #87 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 meet the barrier due to the contact, but was able to return to the pits under the power of his car. Matsuda however, was airlifted to a local hospital, despite being conscious and moving.

A statement from NISMO said the following:

“Following an examination at the hospital, no major injuries have been found for Matsuda. We are relieved to hear this, but follow-up checks are planned. We apologize for any concern this may have caused our fans.”

As a precautionary measure, Matsuda will continue to stay in the hospital for further observation. Despite the horrific scene, the racing community can breathe a sigh of relief that these two racers emerged relatively unscathed.
