We aren’t done with new Mazda SUV’s yet. Mazda still has a few new tricks up its sleeves to tackle top-performing rivals like the Kia Telluride and Toyota RAV4. We’ve seen the CX-90 come out as a true challenger. Now we’re waiting for the Mazda CX-70.
What do we know about the 2024 Mazda CX-70?
The 2024 Mazda CX-70 is one of the three new SUV models that Mazda plans to release in America. It’s specifically designed for the United States market, like the CX-50 and the CX-90. It will be larger than the Mazda CX-60, and the Mazda CX-80 is next.
We don’t have the Mazda CX-60 in America, but we have a few different options to make up for the difference. For example, the CX-50 is an example of one of the wider choices with more passenger and cargo room.
Top Electric SUV shared that the CX-70 is targeting folks who prefer an SUV that’s larger than the CX-60 with a significant presence. Mazda shared that the proportions are optimized for North American customers with expanded interior cabin and cargo spaces.
It will ride on the Skyactiv Mulitple Solution Scalable Architecture that debuted with the CX-60. It has room for gas, hybrid, and electric powertrains. Plus, it could offer a smoother, faster, and more engaging ride than the Toyota RAV4.
The CX-60 is 186.6 inches long, 74.4 inches wide, and 66.1 inches tall. The Toyota RAV4 is 181.1 inches long, 73.0 inches wide, and 66.3 inches tall. If the CX-70 is bigger than the CX-60, then it could have more room than the Toyota RAV4.
How much power will the CX-70 have?
The official powertrain options for the 2023 Mazda CX-70 haven’t been released. However, we can expect some hybrid, PHEV, and electric units. Rumors suggest that the CX-70 and CX-90 will go electric by the end of the year.
With the Mazda CX-90, the standard turbocharged 3.3-liter six-cylinder engine cranks out 280 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Upgrade to the 3.3 Turbo S that pairs then benign with a 48-volt mild hybrid system to generate 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
The CX-90 PHEV pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a 17.8-kWh battery pack for 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The CX-50 could use the same engines or borrow from the CX-50. It may have different power outputs to account for its lighter weight.
With the RAV4, the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder provides 203 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The RAV4 Hybrid boosts things to 219 hp. Also, the RAV4 Prime or PHEV has 302 hp and 288 lb-ft of torque.
It’s a little too early to tell, but it’s possible that the Mazda CX-70 will be faster than the RAV4 and more efficient. We will provide updates when the official EPA ratings are released.
Will the Mazda CX-70 interior be luxurious?
Yes, the 2023 Mazda CX-70 aims for an upscale, premium interior to keep Mazda’s near-luxury reputation alive. We already know it will feature standard AWD, an incredibly valuable perk.
Nappa leather seats, accent stitching, ambient lighting, brushed metal trim, soft-touch covered surfaces, premium suede upholstery, and a panoramic moonroof would keep the CX-70 on brand.
A 12.3-inch digital guage cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment system, head-up display, 360-degree camera, parking sensors, and premium audio system are safe to expect. Plus, it will feature wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with a wireless charging pad.
Stay tuned because the CX-70 could debut in July. We can’t wait to see how it compares to the Toyota RAV4. It could offer more value, space, comfort, and speed.
